SUSTAINABILITY
BREEAM Excellent

Viasat, a global leader in mobile satellite communications, set out to create a new London office that would bring together its integrated teams following the acquisition of Inmarsat. The vision was to support employees holistically, with a workspace designed for wellbeing, innovation and seamless technological performance, reflecting the needs of Viasat’s diverse global customer base.

As the appointed furniture consultant, we collaborated with TP Bennett and the wider project team to deliver a high-quality environment that integrates advanced technology with a furniture strategy tailored to Viasat’s innovative operations.

Building on our long-standing relationship with Inmarsat, we were able to repurpose a significant proportion of those high-quality pieces for Viasat’s new workspace. We carried out a full reuse audit and quality assessment, supported by detailed workshops with the client and design team to determine the most effective placement of existing pieces. This process also included reupholstery, cleaning and refurbishment to ensure every item met the standards of the new environment.

The result is a seamless integration of new and repurposed furniture, with approximately 40% of the overall specification reused. This approach supported Viasat’s goal of achieving BREEAM Excellent certification while helping to deliver the project within budget.

Given the nature of Viasat’s work, bespoke solutions were essential to meet the advanced technological needs of their new office. In the operations centres, we developed custom desks designed to accommodate large, specialised curved screens, alongside tailored storage, bespoke cable management and integrated AV to support the high-tech environment.

The boardroom was also furnished with bespoke pieces to create a seamless, high-performance setting aligned with Viasat’s innovative operations.

Employee wellbeing was central to the design, with the workplace planned as a supportive, agile and dynamic environment. Employees can socialise in the rooftop bar or unwind on the spacious terrace, while the medical room and gym reinforce the company’s commitment to health and wellness. A suite of quiet spaces, including a multi-faith room and dedicated relaxation area, offer moments of calm. The relaxation area features daybeds and lounge chairs to help employees decompress.

Colour and material choices were carefully considered to reflect different activity levels, with warm tones in high-energy areas and cooler blues in quieter zones, complemented by greenery throughout.

To support delivery and installation, we implemented a phased move-out programme that allowed employees to continue working in the existing office during preparations for the new space. Floors were closed progressively, with each move coordinated to ensure minimal disruption and a smooth transition. Our team also managed internal relocations within the old office, moving desks and chairs as needed to support the phased approach.
