Meet the team: Doug Bodenham, Team Manager & Head of curatd.
Originally hailing from Leeds, Doug studied at Newcastle University before joining The Furniture Practice as an Account Manager in 2014, soon progressing to be a Team Manager in Sales. Doug now leads TFP’s curatd. technology platform working with clients to help them realise smarter ways to procure furniture.
Let’s here it, Doug…
What might we not know about you?
Before I was at TFP I skippered a yacht in the Indian Ocean.
How did you end up working in the furniture industry?
By chance really… I was sent to TFP by a recruiter after applying for a job in another industry. I felt very welcomed from my very first interview and having grown up wanting to be an architect, it satisfied a lot of my early interest in design too.
What do you like about working at TFP?
We have an amazing team and I’ve made some great friends over the years working here. The office culture really stands out, it’s fun and social and everyone is treated equally.
We have access to amazing training resources, opportunities to progress and I’ve been given the freedom to develop and work on new ideas (cue curatd.).
Are there any standout projects you’ve worked on?
It’s a tricky one as there have been many good ones. I’ve really enjoyed working with Google DeepMind over the past year. It’s great to work with such a dynamic and forward-thinking company, and some great individuals too.
Do you have a favourite supplier or product?
That’s a really difficult question. I love Scandinavian design but I’m a bit of a sucker for Italian sofas, like the Knoll Avio by Piero Lissoni – that’s my dream sofa!
Anywhere you’d recommend for a holiday?
I visited New Zealand for a friend’s wedding a couple of years ago and managed to spend a few weeks travelling while I was there. It’s such a beautiful country, and if you like the outdoors it’s the perfect place to visit.
What are you most likely to be doing outside of work?
I love music so I generally went to a lot of live events prior to lockdown. Now my weekends are quieter, I like hanging out with my friends and I do a lot of boxing to stay fit.
